Welcome to the Waterloo Ward Blog. This year the ward council has spent a considerable amount of time deciding the ward focus for 2008. We have prayerfully decided that the focus of our ward should be on every family within our ward reading the Book of Mormon together as a family. The goal being that each family complete the Book of Mormon by September 6, 2008. On September 6th we will have an unforgettable ward activity. Fifty years from now our children will remember this activity! Please put this date on your calendars.
With our focus on the Book of Mormon, our Ward Theme is “Experiment on the Word”. The scripture for which our theme is based is found in Alma 32:27 which reads:
But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than adesire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words.
We hope that as a ward we can read the Book of Mormon together as families and as a ward family. With that in mind each family will be given a reading schedule, and a reading chart, that will help each of us monitor our progress. If you have not received one please contact a member of the ward council as soon as possible.
That brings me to the purpose of this blog. The purpose of this blog is to allow us the opportunity to share with others our reflections of our weekly reading assignments. Sharing with one another how we are experimenting on the words of the Book of Mormon and applying them to our daily lives. It is our hope that we will be able to grow together and strengthen our testimonies together as a ward family. It is my hope that you will share with us your thoughts and feelings as you read the Book of Mormon this year.
In closing this first post let me share with you two wonderful quotes by President Marion G. Romney and President Gordon B. Hinckley

President Hinckley:
Without reservation I promise you that if each of you will observe this simple program, regardless of how many times you previously may have read the Book of Mormon, there will come into your lives and into your homes an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord, a strengthened resolution to walk in obedience to His commandments, and a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God.

I was reminded tonight that the 3 witnesses were shown the B of M by an angel, but the 8 witnesses were shown the B of M by Joseph Smith.

I hope the ward gets the hang of the blog pretty soon. Good Job Harold on right in!
Since we have begun reading the Book of Mormon together as a family, it has been amazing how the girls get excited. Grace always wants to read, though she is only 3. I was reminded tonight of how faithful Nephi was. He was very spiritual since he prayed often and acted on the inspiration as it came.
